Generation and savings are different numbers.
A solar generation estimate describes electricity produced by a proposed system. A savings estimate puts a value on the electricity that offsets grid purchases, plus any eligible export credit. The two are connected, but they are not interchangeable.
Daytime electricity use matters.
Electricity used while the panels are generating can serve loads at your property, subject to the system design. Review normal operating hours and consumption before sizing a system. Moving suitable, non-essential loads to daytime may improve how you use generation, but never compromise safety or business operations.
Read the metering arrangement before counting exports.
Export credits and billing treatment depend on your connection, consumer category, electricity provider and applicable approvals. Confirm the current terms with your distribution company. Do not assume that every surplus unit earns a cash payment or is valued at your retail tariff.
Compare the full cost of ownership.
Start with the itemised installed cost. Then review maintenance, financing, possible equipment replacement, warranty terms and the assumptions behind generation estimates. A lower grid bill is not the same as a guaranteed investment return.
- What generation estimate is used, and what is it based on?
- How much solar electricity is expected to be used at the property?
- Which charges remain on the electricity bill?
- Are export credits or subsidies assumed, and are you eligible?
- What maintenance, financing and other costs are included?

Our savings calculator is an illustration, not a quotation or a site assessment. Use it to explore the idea, then share actual bills and property details with the team for a project-specific discussion.
Your questions, answered.
Will my electricity bill become zero after solar installation?
A zero bill should not be assumed. Fixed or demand charges, night-time consumption, seasonal generation and metering rules can affect the bill even when the solar system is operating normally.
Can solar panels create extra income?
The main purpose for many rooftop customers is to reduce grid electricity purchases. Whether exports receive credits or payments depends on the applicable metering and purchase arrangements. Ask your electricity provider for the current terms before assuming income.
